Excessive rust is an ugly sight. To cure our Caprice of this ailment, we physically cut out the rusty panel, ground out any corroded spots, and replaced it all with some new metal.

I didn't improve my metal patch panel repairs until I worked in a shop with a lift. I appreciated it so much my panel repairs became the picture of autobody beauty!

The bad part about having an 20 year old truck is that the paint from back in the day doesn't hold up as good as today's weather proof paint.
The good part about having an old truck is that it was made absolutely bomb-proof and structures were thick as hell, so it could take 15 years of rust before it was structurally damaged.

Today's car paneling and structures are so thin that only 5 years of rust will start affecting the structure, or they're not even made of steel at all, it's all aluminum and plastic.
