Get AAA. It's relatively cheap and you don't have to risk more damage. They also help if you run out of gas or lock your keys in your car.

Step 1: drive a Toyota. They never leave you stranded.

Another one that everyone should know is the coolant temperature sensor. In an emergency if of overheating if the heat defrost for the front windshield doesn’t do the trick you can always unplug the coolant temperature sensor. The check engine light will come on but the main thing that happens is the cooling fan(s) will come on, thats if there in proper working order and don’t have a blown fuse or bad relay, and it will cool your car down enough to limp it home or to a shop. Now when unplugging the coolant temperature sensor the computer will go into limp mode and pull a bunch of timing to keep it safe from detonation so your car might run a little slower than usual but its a trick iv used in the past that’s helped me.
