But there are still a lot of gas cars on the road today and there will be for a long time. EV conversions are becoming a bigger trend that could help. Both the shops and aftermarket community are growing substantially to meet the new demand. CNBC explores what it takes to convert a gas-powered car to an electric vehicle and whether it could go mainstream.

    With that price nope who the hell would convert old car if its that expensive except if the car is some kind of expensive classic that has real value but then when you swap the original engine out and turn it into a battery car it loses all that value.

    Conversion would be cool if the price was sensible and easily available for common man but with that price tag its only going to be rich persons high horse ego boost toy.

    Well, I would like to convert my e61 to ev, but think, in Europe it will be same as New car and with Estonian laws it will be street illegal 😁

    Forgetting Baker Electric? It started long before the grease monkeys from the swing era chimed in, Baker himself was a racer and held titles including coast to coast speed/timed runs, the guy was ahead of his time for sure!
