I decided to build a temporary paint booth in my garage to paint parts for my 1979 Camaro and my 1971 C10 truck. Things got out of hand. I build a pulley system to move the wall in a couple of seconds. The set up time for this paint booth is very impressive. This is a must have in every garage if you plan on painting classic cars.

Here is the parts list

3 mil 10×25″ Polar Plastics clear plastic sheeting (I used 4 of these)
1″ pvc and elbows (for the lower frame)
1×2″ wood pieces (for the upper frame)
a handful of Screw Eyes
a handful of Open S Hooks
2 Hitching Rings with square plate (the hoop)
3/16″ 100′ Polypropylene diamond braided rope (depends on how many walls you need)
3/4″ Koch single sheave pulley (depends on how many walls you need)
1″ 4×8′ Polystyrene foam board cut to fit your doorway
20x20x1″ True Blue Fiberglass House filter (for the fans)
20x24x1″ True Blue Pleated Media Furnace Filter (for the foam door)

Novel idea, except for one problem. Commercial paint booths are positive pressure, to keep dust from being sucked in through every crack and crevice. You need to push the air out, not suck it out. The fans need to be filtered, and on the intake side, and the exhaust side needs to have only a small (and explosion proof!) fan to facilitate moving air, but not enough to take away all your positive pressure. For example, put 4 fans on the intake side, and one for the exhaust and fine tune it from there until you maintain a consistent positive pressure.

about 5 yrs and going similar set up. Your pulley system is awesome.

I think you just are fascinated by Pulley systems.

This is great! I finally sat down and watched this. I may have Nathaniel painting a friend's car in our garage soon and this is definitely how we'll do it!

This is so AWESOME, best I have ever seen. I will be painting my 19' & 22' boat projects this way so no bugs, grass, pollen or wind problems like I would face outside. Many thanks for sharing, great video.

lol, 5 secs a wall. Your time estimates are like mine😂 Good idea. Personally, I'd wall the door off also. Why not just make those excess corners a bit longer and clip them together in the center? Anyway, cool. peace

Absolutely ingenious, get a patent and put together kits of different sizes
