MEK s strong for sure and safety equipment is always good but really most people get very distorted ideas of risk. SDS and almost all safety data is based on a hazard not a risk basis. That is the pure chemical in a high dose is blow its rated. A risk is the amount, the means in exposure and of course the biological response. Ever heard of the Keto diet, yes you body can detoxify this. In a low dose of a single exposure not likely to be a problem. Now some things are just as bad with just a trace because they are persist, like DDT. That’s another deal. Anyway this is why workers may get away w/o precautions. On the other hand if something causes allergies, like a 2-part epoxy you could end a career by not using stay equipment.

You can buy cement designed for bonding ABS pipe in the plumbing section. It works great on any ABS plastic. MEK is one of the ingredients.

Use it to solvent weld acrylic plexiglass as well

MEK = plumbers pipe primer. Get it anywhere you can buy plumbing repair stuff. Our local hardware store (Bunnings) has it. Use PPE – just like every plumber in the world does ?

Gluing ABS plastic together now can be done properly by using G-flex epoxy from West System. Nothing else really works very well, (like using MEK as a solvent to dissolve a flat surface, then sticking another flat piece of ABS on). Very iffy. G-Flex superepoxy- sand/clean the surface, solvent wash, flame, apply G-flex and stick 2 surfaces together- massively strong bond that lasts. see https://www.westsystem.com/
