Learn how to apply a ceramic coating to your car! In this video, I show you all the steps needed to properly prepare your car’s paint and how to protect your paint with ceramic coatings.
Ceramic coatings are a form of paint protection, like carnauba waxes and paint sealants, but they have better durability. Carnauba waxes typically last 2-3 months and synthetic paint sealants last 5-6 months on average. Consumer level ceramic coatings last 1 to 2 years if well maintained. Professional grade coatings can last upwards of 2 years, all the way up to 7 years.
Ceramic coatings are highly hydrophobic, meaning they repel water extremely well. Ceramic coatings also have self-cleaning properties, meaning your paint will keep itself clean of dirt, much more than traditional waxes or sealants. They also add a lot of gloss to your car’s paint.
Here’s a recap of the main advantages of ceramic coatings:
– extreme durability (1 to 2 years for commercial versions)
– amazing gloss
– extremely hydrophobic, so water beads and sheets off the paint
– self-cleaning properties make the car easier to wash
– UV protection
Ceramic coatings are also known as glass coatings and nano coatings. They pretty much are mean the same thing, as the main active component in them is silica (SiO2) which forms a glass layer on your car’s paint, giving it protection and gloss.
For the purposes of this video, I will apply what I believe to be one of the best ceramic coatings (one of the best glass coatings) available to the public, the CarPro CQuartz UK Edition on my own BMW 435i xDrive Gran Coupe M Sport. Gyeon Quartz also make a great ceramic coating in the form of their Mohs coating. Both products are easy to apply, easy to remove.
If you follow the steps in this video carefully, you’ll learn how to apply a ceramic coating to your car and you’ll protect your paint with ceramic coatings.

Strange question: how would the curing stage be affected if the treated panel is baked in a (dry) sauna?
Im applying a ceramic coating on my motorcycle panels and rims and being from Finland, I ofcause have a sauna in my house.
Ive seen professionals shine a heatlamp on the treated surface, thats why im asking.
Thanks for the super informative video Pan! Subscribed!
My wife's tesla seems to have very "soft" paint/clear coat as compared to the german paints we're used to. It gets scratched very easily. I'm contemplating a DIY ceramic coating application.
I had done a glaze, sealant and a wax (all chemical guys) after picking up the car 3 months ago. Do I need to do anything to strip those away before the ceramic coat application?
How many hours does this whole procedure take?
Why do you have a Chinese name?
Can you recommend a starter detailing kit that includes everything you use in one at an affordable price? Also, you use a power washer, is it ok for me to use a garden hose?
After the ceramic coating can you apply wax instead of the reload spray sealant?
I plan on putting a ceramic coating on my car and have purchased everything I need according to your recommendations. When I bought the Reload sealant, I read reviews where people used the Reload as the sole protectant instead of a ceramic coating or a wax. I am going to apply the ceramic coating to my car, but what are your thoughts on using the Reload by itself as a protectant instead of a ceramic coating or wax? This might be helpful if I detail someone's car and don't want to apply a ceramic coating. Your videos are always awesome and I really appreciate your time and attention to detail.
Thank you pan!
Regards from Spain. Great job.
Can I dilute the IPA (eraser) with destilled water?
Can you layer coatings of the ceramic coating (2 layers)? Could you even layer a sealant and wax on top of the coating to get even more protection?
