How not to suck as a DIY mechanic. Don't over tighten your new oil filter. Just like most things, they have a torque spec

Don't tighten an oil filter with a wrench you will deform it, Filter wrenches are for removing oil filters.

U need a thinner oil layer for the gasket.

All of what you said is right beside the part about putting oil on the Seal you don't have to do that you used to have to do it because the seal used to be made out of Cork but most people still do it

Really no point on that Toyota but your right it’s not going hurt but I’ve seen a new hire from a t9 program and forgot to install the filter started it up the amount of oil the shot out was insane haha lucky he had the hood up or the mat under the hood would have been soaked but what I’m getting at the filter definitely fills on it’s own I work for a Lexus dealership in FL

I never pre fill oil filters but always put oil on the seal

Lol you don't pre fill the filter. All manuals tell you not to because you can get dirt in the filtered side
