How Much Does It Cost to Paint a Car? [Automotive Paint DIY Tips]
Repainting or restoring an automobile (car or truck) all depends on how much rust, dents, paint removal, body damage, and what color you want, is what’s going to tell you how much it costs! Painting cars and trucks is not a cheap process, and the cost of automotive restoration can be sky high in price. Scuff and Paint is not an option if you want a quality paint job.

You just want a paint job and your right the cost have to reflect the damage weather it’s dents or rust or whatever the damage is and what color then it also depends on what quality of paint and if it’s a single stage or two stage or even a tri stage but the interior, trim and everything else is separate or have someone else finish the restoration separate from the body work and paint and I feel that if you want your car painted or restored and everything done I will not prepay for anybody’s materials to do the job because a paint job isn’t going to make it run any better and it’s not me that wants it painted materials our very expensive these days and I’m not digging out of my pocket to paint someone’s car because I’m not the one that wants it painted and to this day haven’t done a complete paint job were the body didn’t need some kind of body work and I won’t do just a scuff and shoot that’s for a Earl shives or Maco paint job and good luck with that
Merry Christmas Pete Mini
Kindig their shop starts at $250,000 and there's a 1 year waiting list…. Joe Martin customs charges just as much most likely…..people watch those shows on TV they never mention total cost spent to do the work. Hell the only one that comes close to telling the cost is fanthom motor works, most people have no idea what it cost to paint or restore a classic car their heads are full of big ideas from the show's and not in reality! Unless you have the time and skills and the place to do it yourself……bring money and wheel barrows of money!
Let's talk about what your own vehicle you know has like I know what my vehicle has if I buy something else?
You spend $35,000 on a restoration then when you try to sell it you might get $15,000 on a good day. It’s become a rich mans hobby. A Working man just either drives a beater or he goes in debt and makes payments on a new vehicle. A working man is not supposed to have any hobbies just keep your nose to the grindstone and feel lucky to support your family.
Thats why i painted my bug in my garage for 500 bucks
The body shop also has the responsibility of his reputation so that at least for me makes me decide if I’ll take on a just bodywork and paint or restoration job because if it cannot be done right because of the cost then they will need to drag or drive it down the road to somebody else that might give them what they are looking for
Back in the 1950’s my uncle rolled his 1937 ford sedan. He went and bought a ford model a in great shape for fifty bucks and was embarrassed to drive it. He dumped it as soon as he could afford a later model car. Crazy times!
Very good lesson Pete . And there is a big difference between a shop like yours doing a paint job and a macco paint job and I would pass on the macco and the Earl scheib job .
Good video Pete an Minny
