The problem I have with tires is that they start to get hard and then lose traction. My 50k tires only have 20k on them and I can slide all over on the road. OK, they are 5 years old but still.

Since you have buddies that are awesome chemists, do you know of anything to put on tires to keep them from dry rotting?

The thin tires that came with my scion are trash. They cost too much and don't last. I plan to switch to normal size tires. I used to buy all 4 for $120 plus tax back in the day. On my current car the tires are $150.00 each! A rip off!

They last until they wear out, you’re welcome.

Depends on a lot more than that, driving habits as well as what kind of vehicle and how heavy it is along with what exactly you use that vehicle for also make a major difference.

I’ve had Michelin tires last well over 100,000 miles and still have plenty of tread depth. However, at that point they no longer held air reliably.

I buy nothing but Michelin and 40,000 miles they are ready to be replaced. I don't run them until they are slick.

I know a guy that only lasted a weekend
He said they were bad tires and went to complain to the tire shop
A week later, his differentiate broke. I wonder why 😐

It also depends if you drive on mountain roads which have a lot of twists and turns. My commute to town wears out a set of tires in about 12,000 MI. It also depends on the quality of the road you're driving on,
The roads I drive on make a horrendous noise you can just tell your tires are being eaten as you go along.
