I like where I live, no emissions testing, (yet), haha and you can pretty much open a shop wherever you please

what do you do when the car up front is done before the ones in the back and you can't get it out to the customer? that makes it extremely difficult.

Totally understand the frustration. My shop is on the same lot as a POS car dealer who continually tells people "the guy in back" in reference to me. My reputation is with out blemish of over 30 years. I can't go staple his yap much as I'd love to. My location before this was a strip with 2 other shops who'd all disrespect the others. Also I noticed the same as I see in your situation. Shit hole shops next to yours. Here in Tucson also business unfriendly the local shops compensate for the extremely slow summer months with basically junk yards of which they aren't zoned for but because they can say the car is a customers in storage they get away with it. Another irritation is the hours they run. They've taken to basically ignoring ordinances and run 24/7 they park vehicles in disrepair on the public streets. Then my personal pet peeve. Customer parts. The asshats who run business's, they where mechanics, never educated at operations or business. They have caused the self inflicted wound of the repair industry to continue to fester. I get calls "i just want to know the labor to put my air conditioning compressor on, I bought it already" This is the single most stupid thing repair shops do, especially ones run by dipshits and mobile rip off artists. I am not the only professional to say this. Mitch Snyder to every management training seminar and all my years of running shops both my own and managing all prove that the risks are to high and as a whole those idiots are cutting our throats. We should run RockAuto right out off the cliff( ask em for a warranty on that cheap as part). We should pass law such as BAR in CA. where only qualified persons can repair cars, customer satisfactions are assured and no more BS customer parts. We can't call up the doctor and ask him to put in the kidney we bought from Ebay or get a discount on eye surgery because we can take off the old one first. I'm okay with municipalities governing repair shops because the past has proven how hazards are dealt with when not controlled. I realize the majority of us care about mother Earth but the percentage of shop owners who'd just dump. I mean if you've ever been to like north central AR. where every Cooter has ASE and a gun rack in his POS Chevy pick up then you know what's going down in his back yard. 20 years plus I've been watching the decay of the industry. From morons who work a day as a tech then go home to do side work. If I was less of a karma guy I'd find some idiot side worker document the repairs and go crash. Sue the ass off him, take the house, wife, life.
