I have had a few ex-police cars: 2 crown Vics which were awesome, fast, and reliable, and 2 dodge chargers which were each nightmares… The Vic's lasted to ~160k the chargers were knocking at only 70k and leaked a different fluid each week lol.. loved the overall experience of police packaged cars but definitely have to be prepared for random repairs!

As a person like me that patrol in these patrol units. I can tell you first hand these specialized vehicles are running with the AC on for Approximately 18 to 21 hours per day,

When I leave the vehicle at the station and walk in into the office, the unit is still running with the AC full blast.

We beat the heck out of them, then when my shift is over the next person does the same thing. Leaves it running when not in use and to open the door it's old school. Put the outside key and open the door manually.

So next time when looking to buy used say with 90,000 miles

If you look at the engine hours run time it's more like 350,000 miles just saying.

When I was a kid my dad bought a 1967 Plymouth belvedere from an LAPD auction, it was our daily driver for years with a 440 it was a dark blue detectives unit, it was reliable and fast as hell, I wish we would have held on to it

I had a 2008 p71 recently, awesome reliable car. Careful with the water reservoir it’s not meant to be filled all the way. Also, look at the paint in good light before a decision, mine had Ford performance white doors and roof and the front and back of the car were Walmart spray can white.

I bought a 9c1 Caprice from CHP with 100k miles and it ran fine….until 160k miles when the transmission and every other little thing started to fail. Until then, it was an absolute dream vehicle!
