Did the mistake of buying k and n. Cabin filter. Made my car smell like oil. Now just buy regular paper cabin filter. Easier
A couple of hundred $$ for parts & labor combined could decrease the 50 mile per tank issue along with keep it running for another 100k as well.
With that Accura Legend, also check to see if the timing belt and water pump were recently changed. That could easily be a $500 job if you pay a shop, and might be half the value or 1/3 of the value of the car. Not saying don't buy it, but it's an expense you might incur shortly down the road if it hasn't been done in the last 60k miles.
For the guy with the '13 Civic, it if it urns good, just keep it. It's probably paid for, and that's actually about normal miles for the year (maybe a tad on the low side). Just remember when you buy a used car (the 2017 he mentioned for example) you may be buying someone else's problems. I mean if you're selling and then going to buy a new one, that's a different story.
Aem makes dry flow filters without oil
I have a 96 Olds Aurora with a 4.0 Northstar and i hope day in and day out it doesn't go bad lol. It's a toy/ emergency vehicle, anyways. Smooth as could be and trans shifts like a dream but every few thousand miles something needs fixed on her. Love it to death but it's definitely a ticking time bomb.
Because he wants to Scotty.
So what is wrong with the K&N filters?
Reoiling K&N filters are tricky. I'v been using them in my motorcycle and cars for years. Never had an issue with mass air sensor. Take your time reoiling and wipe off any access oil.
250k with k&n filter? I dont see how thats a fail. I clean my filters often and my engines go 300k +
