Electric is the future, but it ain't going to be powered by batteries. That is a dead end. The grid can't handle just our air conditioners now. We need fuel cells to power those electric motors. You ain't ever going to have a battery powered train, a battery powered ship or a battery powered jumbo jet, so just face facts that batteries are for watches and laptops.
Unlikely in even my grandkids lifetime but I would consider one with owner removable briefcase sized lightweight replaceable power cells individually capable of hundreds of miles that could be exchanged like propane grill tanks. Several could be stored in the trunk for extended range. Dead power cell? Pull into any Seven-Eleven and exchange for a fully charged one.
The same, will consider with mileage improvement, when weights reduced, the road tax for EVs is removed, the prices come down, and when it doesn't cost the same to recharge as it does to fill up with petrol/diesel (which it currently does in Australia)
When i can buy a shitbox ev for 800 dollars and drive it for 5 years without doing anything other than normal maintenance then talk to me.
What I'd really like to know, is what is the range on these when the temperature is -35C? I'm guessing less than half.
My wife & I have owned 5 EV's together… AND WE LOVED THEM ALL! 2 Leafs, a quirky BMW i3, a Tesla Model 3 & Tesla Model S. We currently have a 2013 Mercedes SL 550 Roadster and a 2019 Model 3. But if we had to downgrade to just one car, I would choose the Model 3, because it's more practical in several ways. One of which, we can drive 125 miles on electricity for less than you pay for a gallon of gas! BOOM! No oil, changes. No tune-ups. No radiator flush. Basically maintenance-free. But I love the Benz Roadster more. But when new, it cost twice as much as the Tesla, literally. Thankfully, I bought it used, and it only had 17k miles. So it was still expensive, but less than half of the 115k original price tag. But a quality EV is a must-have in our lives. They are fantastic! screw scotty! LOL
Are super capacitors ever going to be a thing?
It’s gonna happen eventually just like what happened to apg aka propane
I have 1 reason I won't buy a new car. I'm old school and I love the engagement of driving…….It's called a manual transmission.
I guess most of you out there are like my parents. Go to point A to point B with as little effort. Sorry, cars today have taken the fun out of driving.
I have a 2018 Focus RS. It's a love or hate car……….I love it ! Screw the EV's, automatics, and DCT's. Heck give me a 3 on the tree like the 1974 Pontiac Ventura with a 250 CI. six.
I truly appreciate all wonderful knowledge you impart and I want to thank you for the way you present it simple and thorough take care of Scotty
