People who buy BMW keep them through the warranty, then trade them off.

Must have gotten a good one. My 2002 M3 eats very little money. I do most repairs myself. Parts are ridiculously expensive

ZF6 are good? The beefier ones in this less powerful diesels are decent for if serviced

Owned 3 and loved them all,
    Never had any issues,
    E46 323ci, e92 323i and e92 m3

Odd, my BMW M3 has been wonderful, never had any huge repair bills. Just brakes, rotors and fluids over its life so far. Maybe I got the one they actually built correct ?‍♂️.

The turbo diesels, which are not offered in the states are much better in all aspects; engine, transmission (the zf are indestructible) . My company car, a 2013 320d has nearly 380,000km on it and the original everything . Other than tires, oil changes, breaks and one transmission fluid (+ pan filter) I have replaced nothing. Most BMWs that are sold around the world are diesels not petrol. You are kind of comparing apples to oranges.

In Poland we used to say BMW like this: Będziesz Miał Wydatki (you will have expenses).
