I bought a '69 VW Squareback(fuel injection, new in '68) that was bought in Germany and brought to the US and sold with around 12IK miles. Almost immediately, it failed to start when cold and acted like a carbureted engine that needed to be choked. The dealer's mechanics really didn't fully understand the fuel injection system yet and I can still hear the German mechanic saying, "Replace the computer" in guttural English. Didn't fix it. I finally braved the regulations about entering the work area and read the manual concerning hard, cold starting; bad cylinder heat sensor. The computer didn't know the engine was cold. I had to replace this sensor at least three times over 10 years. New technology!

Without a load(aircon and head lamps on) 14.1V. But diodes of different quality and makes respond a bit differently when a load is applied ? Rate of response and rate of recovery ? I am really ignorant about the diodes in the alternator . Please help , Master Scotty .
