The aftermarket isn't always the best, you get what you pay for
It went an mechanic to an computer technician. My 2004 Jeep. Turn key and go. Simple. My 2020 F150. Once an month. Since the truck doesn't pick up simple wifi. I have to plug in my cellphone and check for updates. Its not an truck. Its an computer. I cant work on my truck. My Jeep I can tear it all apart and put it back together. What gets me also. The truck has an power converter. Sure. Only 400 watts. Give me an break. I have two portable ones way more powerful. 750 and a 1000 watt. Making the one built in the truck about pointless.
I agree with you about people not getting into the industry do to "manual labor". I recently started for a Chrysler dealership working on RAM trucks. None of the guys they hire (lube bay) have any real motivation or want to do a decent job. The younger generation is full of entitlement and are genuinely hard to train. And with all the electronics on these cars, they aren't prepared for the job to move up and make more money. These days you really need to have taken electrical engineering courses or have a strong grasp on electrical from somewhere prior to coming into the industry. Sadly between the lack of work ethic for manual labor, and lack of education, it is almost impossible to hire and train new techs.
Sounds like a conspiracy.
2018 Equinox, needed rear shock. I have always changed both on axel. My favorite local mechanic had to buy from a dealership. $175 each plus labor.
