I heard a lot about Chinese chain saws that were knock offs of American made saws like Husky. I bought one, and I actually like it better than my Husky. It probably won't last as long, but it only cost me less than half as much. I now have a Korean car after driving nothing but Hondas and Toyotas for almost 40 years. Again I do not expect it to do what my Toyotas or even my Honda Civic did, but for a used car the cost differential is significant. I expect it to do about like GM junk which is what my wife drives. We stay on good terms with our mechanic of course. Toyotas are reliable, and some I have owned were amazing. My 89 4WD pickup was not one of them. Starter failed at 100K, clutch at 150K, never got over 20 mpg and the little 4 holer wouldn't pull a sick boy off a chamber pot. The brakes failed in the mountains, scared my wife so bad she would not ride in it anymore, so it went to a new home.
It's just a matter of time. They have engineers studying design and mechanics in every major university in the US and EU. They have industrialized their factories. Their workers are not unionized and will work to death. They'll reverse engineer things. They've done it for electronics. But guess what the US did the same thing at some point. Americans reverse engineered competition and "improved on it."
If the copy cat runs great than the Chinese will get my money. You know it is cheaper and affordable.
The ultimate plot twist would be be if these Chinese knockoffs are more reliable than American cars.
