Honda Civics are not all reliable. My son bought a 7th generation (2002) Civic coupe LX w/ 5 speed MT (D17A1 1.7L engine), which runs great except when the engine gets good and warm, at which point it abruptly switches to "limp to the roadside" mode, and throws a p1361 TDC sensor engine code. After researching I found that this engine is notorious for this problem, which is caused by excessive camshaft endplay corrupting the signal from the Hall-effect sensor on the camshaft pulley. There is a Honda tech bulletin which says replace the cylinder head with a new one :O
We just finished a full rebuild w/ fresh cylinder bore & oversize pistons, and had the cylinder head refurbished at a shop which specializes in this service. As a lifelong Honda customer, I can't tell you how disappointed I am >:-(
I'm all for FCEVs. EV batter technology is not advanced enough yet.
