My 02 corolla S gets 38 relatively consistently. I see 36 combined all the time.
Could you one day make a break down video of Kia similar to what you did with Toyota? I have a 2007 Kia Spectra5 and it's at 275k miles and I havent had a problem I couldn't fix myself yet, and I love it. I've heard some good things but ive also heard some are garbage and I'd love to hear you opinion. I also share your bias towards Toyota since I work for them. 🤣
The Toyota Matrix weights up to 2,778 lb, it has 5.1 inches of ground clearance and its 1.8 L engine delivers 126 hp and 122 lb ft. The Toyota Corolla Cross weights up to 3,325 lb, it has 8.1 inches of ground clearance, it's AWD and its 2.0 L engine delivers 169 hp and 151 lb ft. Consider all of that before saying that technology has only achieved 1 more MPG.

Scotty I love you but, the Matrix doesn't have great ground clearance. The real question is why the Cross gets worse gas mileage than a 22 Rav4. 8 speed > CVT
