I have a 2000 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC a/c blowing warm I added refrigerant and it blows cooler but not cold what else should I do

What if when you turn on the Ac and at first its a little warm then a nasty smell then it gets cold
Then there's the Honda Odyssey know for the ac just dying for no reason.
I have the same issue on my 03 toyota highlander, slightly colder air in my passenger side and warm air on my drivers side, do i flush the refrigerant (is that also called freon) at the mechanic?? Please help my sons 3 and my wifes 6 months pregnant🥵
