A K&N will flow better but it will allow more small particles than a paper filter. Oil analysis proves this. Also if he switches to a K&N on a bike, he may need to adjust his fuel system since swapping to a K&N will change the air flow considerably. Not so much on a car, though.
What a total BS about the KN filters. KN filters are superior over paper filters. If you consider the paper and KN filter getting dirty equally at the same time, the KN filter will let more air through. A paper filter very quickly loses its efficiency when it gets clogged up. When the KN filter gets clogged up equally it gives the engine still better performance. I am referring to the testing David Vizard has done, which you can find in his book about the tuning the A-series engine. Ofcourse his research and testing of the filters does also apply to other engines.
The biggest thing wrong with Jaguars is that Americans insist on calling them JAGWAHHHHS.
