In this video I filmed from start to finish as I repaired the door sill on my 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg. This is by no means the “right way” to do the job. The only way to completely remove rust is to cut it out and weld in a replacement piece of steel. This video is for those of you who are sick of looking at a rust spot on your car and don’t want to spend the money at a professional auto body repair shop. In this video I explain the step by step DIY process of how to repair rust and paint your car, motorcycle, tractor, etc.

Hello. I have the same problem with my MK5 2008 Wolfsburg in the same place. I think this rust grows, because painting was damaged by boots when driver leaves the car (what do You think?) I will fix my car in next week with similar method, but I wonder for how long it will work…

Use phosphoric acid on the bare metal/rust after grinding and sanding to convert the rust, then use an etch primer (which also has phosphoric acid) as the first coat. This will kill the rust permanently providing the rust is not coming from the other side.

No use of a rust binder ?…. This is totally not a good work

That's some horrible first technique right there. You don't start or stop the spray while over the work surface

For an average person who doesnt want to spend $800 for a shop type repair, you did an awesome job. Obviously this type of rust will eventually come back but doing it this way might get 2 years of not looking at that cosmetic rust.

Also to add my 2c, when I did a rattle can type job like this about 3 years in I noticed the paint would oxidize and lose its gloss and need to be waxed back to shine. Maybe its because I didn't clear coat it like yours.
