My local garage use to put some sort of sealer on my exhaust where the joint kept blowing. It worked for a while until i got a new exhaust.

gungum works very well for filling holes and little cracks but it cannot bear mechanical stress for many days (2 weeks as you said). Some time ago I had to weld the exhaust pipe, I upload a video, perhaps that may be of interest to someone.

I'd have welded it for free 🙂

Thanks for this tutorial. I followed it to solve the same problem with my mazda. I did not use chemical metall at all. After applying gun gum pasta first time, there has been leak in the hardened pasta layer – because of a gap between the pipe and the silencer, gasoline made a hole in the pasta. I wrapped aluminium tape (price 5 euro) about this place, applied more pasta. Next day I applied more gun gum pasta (probably because I was not careful and did not wait long enough before starting the engine). Anyway, so far it has been 200 km and counting. And the car passed an official car test that has to be done yearly in NL. I will write back when/if the pipe breaks off. Or, if I am lucky, after a few thousands km to say that it is still in place.
It maybe a temporary fix, but for an old car, this a very cheap and good solution.
