Day 1 of the S2000 teardown! In this video I discuss (rather randomly) how I go about the initial steps to remove the engine and gearbox from the car.
This includes:
Shift knob removal
Shift mount bracket (underside of the car)
Driveshaft
Catalytic converter
Clutch slave cylinder line (leaving the cylinder on the gearbox since I’m dropping it)
O2 sensor harness
ECU plugs and harness through the firewall – they will come down with the motor.
All the radiator and heater hoses
AC compressor
Fuel lines (from underneath the car).
And so far my plan is to drop both out the bottom of the car rather than yank the motor out the top. Stay tuned to see if that is what I ultimately decide on (I’m curious myself! 🙂 ).
Day two (and more) will be deciding which subframe bolts I need to undo to lower only the motor and gearbox (not the suspension!).
And for the curious, my plan (thus far) is this:
Clutch/flywheel
Gearshift bushing (easy)
Header
General cleanup of the engine and engine bay
As the winter teardown progresses I will move onto things like:
Brakes (rotors and pads all around, and *maybe* a big brake kit for the front)
Diff carrier bushings
Driveshaft inspection
Wheels and tires (waaaay overdue)
If there’s budget leftover then coilovers…
It needs a front clip in the worst way too…
Etc. etc. etc. etc….!
Also HUGE shoutout to Gsonperformance for the complete walk-through for pretty much how I’m going to do this (save for the motor out the bottom). Check him out!

Looks like its gonna be a lot of work but should be fun. Having a car for that long and still enjoying it just shows how special the s2000 is !!!!!
