I put my flash on my phone and knelt down and started taking pictures of the underside .
I showed them to the seller and pointed out the Subframe was rusted thru ..

1965. I was 15 working in a service station pumping gas after school, Saturdays and Sundays, and summertime
they were repaving Route 65 out of Pittsburgh. The ground down to the bricks to remove all the old asphalt. The manholes were sticking up about 8 inches..
A carload of dudes in tuxedos we’re on their way to a wedding reception. They hit one of those manholes With their oil pan. We all heard it that Saturday night.. most cars were driving down 65 at about 20 miles an hour through the construction zone to avoid all the manholes sticking up. Not these guys. They were doing about 50 miles an hour when they hit one of the covers..
A couple minutes later they had turned around and came back to the service station I worked in.. we pulled their car in to the garage and put it up on the rack. They had ripped the oil pan open so badly, that we could see the crankshaft, the pistons and rods, and the oil pump pick up through the hole in the oil pan..
I was not a mechanic, and the other high school kid working there with me was only 17.. but we were both one of the mechanics and we had enough mechanical common sense to see that that was not going to be fixed tonight..we told those guys that the parts stores aren’t open and they are not gonna have an oil pan in stock, so they’re gonna have to wait till Monday to have it fixed
So we let the car down off the rack, and those guys got in that car, started it and continued on their way..
