@ChiefBullsnipe Under certian conditions. If you are doing a floor job, and you want to seam it up on the inside, it would be ok to use, if you where seam sealing the drip rails NO you need to use seam sealer. The PL sets very hard and has little flex to it when it drys, so if it's not going to be seen, you will be fine using it. Pete
@diyautoschool The best way to use Advance PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive is around the house with 1/2 inch gap in between addition to the house and around windows on the outside and concrete floor on the outside. I use Advance PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive to seal line on the outside of my garage and it work best there and held up in -10 degree winter and 4 foot of snow just on the outside of it.
@diyautoschool that is true. Advance PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive is only best were standing water is not visible. Like when you cut up a wheel well to pound out dents from the inside out and you weld the wheel well back on from the inside and you have a seam and you can use the construction adhesive on that. Advance PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive is the best sealer to use on plastic bumper ever it will seal and hold even in winter were snow and ice
Does it matter if you apply the sealer before or after primer?
@Toerme Depending on the situation is when you apply sealer, there are resons to apply sealer to bare metal and there are reasons to apply sealer before paint. If you have stripped your vehicle down to bare metal and it will be sitting around for awhile, you will want to apply an epoxy sealer to it for protection, and then ofcoarse right before paint you would apply epoxy sealer as well..
I usually repair all the rust/ sheetmetal repairs and then go back and do the overall body work, good luck on your ghia.. make sure you check out youtube channel swrnc for the latest video on Volkswagen Restoration —The right way to do it.. Pete
Nice job. But if you doing an authentic restoration you need to use a paint brush and "blob" it on. Don't be neat at all because the factory workers in the 60's and 70's weren't.
Yeah you could do it that way if you wanted to, and if you wanted you can also buy brushable seam sealer in the qt can as well…
Yup. That's exactly what I do. Buy it in the quart can and blob it on to give it an authentic right from the factory look. It depends on what look your trying to achieve on your restoration.
What kind of seam sealer do you use?
Thanks again for another great instructional video.
I'm currently replacing the heater channels on my '74 super beetle and had to remove a lot of seam sealer to cut out the spot welds.
