Correction, When you pull that orange switch/plug thing in the back it seperates half of what are many 4.2 volt LIion batteries in series so it cuts the effective voltage of the system in half to make it safer to work on. And although the High voltage may be intimidating to some, there are many "DIY" ers that DIY other electrical equipment/Ebike, ect and have a good understanding of how it works and with proper saftey precautions they will be just fine working on it. I think you are overly gerneralizing when saying no one should work on them or buy them used. The main distinction should be IF you are comfortable working with high voltage systems and the safety precautions needed then go for it, but it should not be attempted by someone who is not comfortable working with high voltage… I mean we have 120 volts running through all our walls, and we work live and function around that all the time, and it can easily be enough to kill you. So the fact that the car has high voltage really isn't such a huge deal, so long as you understand that it is not a simple "Low voltage" 12 volt system. I watched Cris fixes Video, and I do think he could have put a little more of a precaution on it along the lines of "Attention, E-vehicles have high voltage, and there are inherent dangers with working on such systems, such as electric shock, and if you dead short the batteries they can potentially explode/catch fire, people should take all proper safety precautions to work on these" or something like that. And meanwhile you are over stating the danger as if its some alien spacecraft that will kill anyone who touches it. Its the future of cars, and people need to start learning and getting comfortable with it somehow. Granted in your generation you can probably ignore it for the most part as it wont such a big deal, but young people today need to start learning about it now if they are going to have any chance of being able to fix anything in the future. When you were starting out did people tell you "Oh well you are working on a 2000 lb plus hunk of metal, so don't fix the brakes yourself or people will die" no of course not, thats ridiculous. But As with anything proper precaution and preperation are required.

I'm posting this up everywhere so the cost of used Priuses stays cheap. 😛

My wife and I bought a Prius 3 years ago with 180k for 3k. 220k later it's still running, and we've done very little to this car to keep it running — like the bare minimum. I'll give any used Toyota with a ton of miles the benefit of the doubt.

Do you really think the mechanics wear all that electrical safety equipment or are just saying that to put your own mind at ease cause you know damn well that it never happens.

My problem with Chris’s Prius battery replacement video is that he’s encouraging DIY amateurs to mess with high voltage electrical systems. This is not like a DIY brake job, only trained mechanics who understand electrical system should mess with hybrid batteries. It’s like teaching an amateur to rewire their house electric and fuse box with one video, just pay a professional to do it, it’s extremely dangerous if not done correctly: link to video in question: https://youtu.be/Q3RCdrh666w
