Buying tools as a new mechanic is scary and mechanic tools are expensive. In the US most shops require new mechanics to provide their own tools. I wanted to see if I could build an Apprentice Mechanic tool box for under $2500. This is enough tools to get someone started working on cars. The best part, the dealer will be giving this to the next apprentice they hire!

HUGE thank you to @ScannerDanner for his contribution to this project! ~

$3000 on Snap on truck, like a guided tour price. Can't get many tools. I run a Lube shop, not full service, but I probably have $10,000. Mostly Harbor Freight

  2. Rhyley Haselton

Long handle 1/2" ratchet with locking flex head

It’s Len, I’m hitting you up.

Sharpies, both black and metallic. I have been known to write the size of oil drain plugs on the back of oil pans because no one is ever going to see it unless they are changing the oil and it saves me trying to figure out what the correct size socket is.

Harbor freight has a huge pribar that’s I think 20 bucks I can’t remember how long it is right off hand but i think every tech should have one it’s tuff as hell I work as a maintenance technician at a foundry and I probably use that bar more times a day than I can count I’ve beat the shit out of it and it’s still straight hasn’t broke other than the end of the plastic handle due to hitting it with a hammer

Solid tool kit. I would skip the caliper hangers and make some out of metal coat hanger unless of course it came with the caliper tool.

Totally agree with the air tool choices over the equivalent battery stuff.

    Happy New Year!
