    would I not have to disable the ignition when doing a cylinder compression test?

    You want to disable the engine so it will not start when performing a cranking compression test like this one. It is best to disable both spark and fuel, especially fuel, so that raw gas does not wash down the cylinders over the course of the test.

    okay thank you. how would I disable spark? I have a coil on plug assembly

    Easy! Simply unplug the electrical connectors at the coil.
