How Long can a body panel such as this hood stay bare metal in shop before oxidation starts to occur where you risk painting over top some and it cause problems. ??????

Pete. Not so many home workshops/garages have an air compressor to run a DA sander.
So what to use instead? Is a regular electric powered orbital sander work well enough?
