That mentality is why you as a tech are a waste of my money, just because you can doesn’t mean you should, yeah see ya I’m taking my parts and vehicles to the fella down the block that does the work right the first time because ya know I just hate to have to do an engine rebuild twice due to eff ups during the machining processes, dude seriously that’s just LAZY, and to boot you just proved the deviations with and without,🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️, not to mention in machinists jargon .010” is a huge amount even .0001 is a bit, remember in matching of engine and components a thousandth is a lot of material to remove, yeah I remember my first time rebuilding an engine after a long night of getting drunk on old uncle joes corn wine

What sucks is you'd need the right one for each engine or stick to doing one type of engine.

I was thinking it's not so much in overall distortion, but more so locally around the area near the head bolts , which is where most pressure and work is done .

Never mind, it's the electric car age, your BMW stink-box 2000 is headed for the crusher anyway.

On an Aluminum block… yea it will distort
    Iron… not so much

    Depends on the block –
Ten years in the business and I found out which blocks distorted and which didn't, and "plated" accordingly.
On some it's a waste of time and money, the others it's mandatory to get proper ring seal – for maximum power and economy.

I saw an engine that was blueprints and fussed over and it still never made is to 50k miles

Maybe a waste but if I walked into a shop and they were using one I'd feel perfectly fine leaving my car. Nothing wrong with trying to do the best job.

But it's a BMW so this is probably a double bold, underlined, highlighted procedure in the service manual which MUST be done every 3 and a quarter oil changes or the engine will explode

Couldn't you just put the head on there and check the measurements from underneath. But this probably would only work on inline motors
