Working on your car is the best
But even if you know all the how to, you still need a lot of expensive equipments and tools, which sucks

I have to laugh to at the new features they keep adding to vehicles and they tout them in commercials, because I see that just as another thing that can break and cost money to repair lol

The only point I want to bring up is that car repair was not the beginning of planned obsolescence. You can find several documentaries discussing it, but The Lightbulb Conspiracy does a good job of it, for the most part.

Well, as a mechanic, I Don´t think it´s fun to charge a costumer for an 4 hour altenator change .. (Just an example)

the problem is not really the increased complexity of the cars, but the decreased skillset of the modern "man". i am 26 years old and own a renault. that car is an abomination when it comes to diy repairs but i regularly fix it.
many of my friends on the other hand dont even know how to change a tyre properly, let alone stuff like changing the timing belt. they dont even own a pair of plyers and have never used an electric drill in their life.
its not the cars, its just that most men are becoming pussys when it comes to stuff like that. heck some of them ask their girlfriend to drill a hole in the wall to hang up a fucking lamp.
