The infamous "that should work" I think any person working on a car has said at least once.
Laugh it up, monkeys, because if you've ever owned a fifteen year old beater and had one of those plastic latches break, for example, when you try and replace it with the proper item at the auto parts store and see the $40 dollar price, you'll figure out a cheap bodge fix that works too. I still do bodge fixes on my nicer car if I don't feel like spending the money right away or the part is on back order (and my local parts yard doesn't have it…).

Why call them fails? Looks like most of them will do their intended job, that's not failure in the least! However, the flashlights for a headlamp don't appear to be working well.
When I was a teen I had an old Volvo which looked like the 49 Ford. It had a lot of blow-by coming out of the oil breather/fill cap which would come into the car. I got someone to braze a tube on top of the cap ,and got an old wash machine drain hose (the one which hooks into the plumbing drain). Ran this down to exhaust the blow-by behind the front wheel. It worked great, no more smoke in the car!
