Ahead of the car’s unveiling later this year, the new-generation Tiguan has been spotted on the streets of Slovenia as it was being filmed.
The first images of an uncamouflaged 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan have surfaced online, after the car was seen filming a promotional video on streets in Europe.
These images, posted online by Slovenian Instagram account @avtomanija, offer our best look yet at the upcoming Tiguan.
Volkswagen is expected to reveal the new Tiguan in late 2023, following official teaser images already showing off the SUV’s interior.
The third-generation Tiguan will feature a 15-inch tablet-style infotainment screen – up from 9.2 inches – together with a larger digital instrument display ahead of the driver.
Selecting gears will now happen via a stalk mounted on the steering column, freeing up space on the centre console.
On the outside, the Tiguan adopts Volkswagen’s latest design language, with a full-width front grille and daytime-running lights and thinner headlights, while also introducing a bold chrome strip along the lower part of the front and rear bumpers.
It’s not immediately obvious which model grade is being filmed, but it appears to be the Tiguan R-Line, with the car featuring tinted headlight and tail-light surrounds, and large polished-face alloy wheels.
These digital illustrations by artist Theottle provide an idea of what cheaper Tiguans may look like.
Sharing an upgraded version of the current model’s platform, this will be the last Tiguan to come with a traditional line-up of petrol engines before the SUV goes electric.
Overseas reports suggest the Tiguan will come with a mild-hybrid 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, and two plug-in hybrids with different levels of performance.
While Australian models have yet to be announced, it’s understood the German car-maker may offer a range of electrified engines – with Volkswagen Australia confirming a plug-in hybrid is on its wishlist, offering up to 100km of electric-only driving.
The red vehicle in the latest images is a plug-in hybrid, denoted by the ‘E’ on its licence plate.
As previously reported by Drive, the long-wheelbase, seven-seat Tiguan Allspace will be replaced by the large Volkswagen Tayron for its next generation, which will gain unique styling compared to its five-seat Tiguan sibling.
The new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan will be unveiled in late 2023, with Australian showroom deliveries expected in the second half of 2024.
