Looking for an electric car that costs more than a house? Get in line…

Measuring nearly half a metre longer than a Toyota LandCruiser (5453mm vs 4980mm), and weighing almost three tonnes (2890kg), the Rolls Royce Spectre is a vast two-door luxury coupe.

It is powered by a 102kWh battery pack with outputs of 430kW and 900Nm, good for up to 530km of claimed driving range – and zero to 100km/h acceleration quicker than a V8 Holden Commodore SS or Ford Falcon XR8, at 4.5 seconds.

When the Spectre arrives it will be Australia’s most expensive electric vehicle and nearly double the price of the current spend champion, the $365,100 plus on-road costs Porsche Taycan Turbo S sedan.

The Spectre is priced from $770,000 before on-road costs which, after options, some personal touches to your car’s specification, and government registration and stamp duty costs are added, could approach $1 million on the road.

That makes it the second most expensive Rolls-Royce on sale – behind the $1,014,150 Phantom – and at list price, is 6.5 per cent more expensive than Australia’s median house price. And it doesn’t even have a bathroom.

Representatives for Rolls-Royce Australia told Drive interest and orders from Australian customers in the Spectra have been “significant”.

Australia is said to be in the top-three markets in the Asia-Pacific region – which also includes Japan, Indonesia, the world’s most populous nation, India, and other markets – for orders.

Rolls-Royce has reported 21 cars as sold in Australia so far in 2023, down from 33 at the same time last year.

The electric Spectre replaces the V12 Wraith as the brand’s two-door grand tourer and joins both the Ghost and Phantom saloons and Cullinan SUV in the showroom.
