What’s Going On With The 1967 Camaro Transmission. It’s Still A Nightmare
#diy #camaro #restoration
It’s time to make a decision and make the right one. Take the car to a shop that can get this running?? Or — let My Friend Pete have a final try at it again??? It’s up to the owner to decide. If My Friend Pete pulls the engine out again it will be the last time!

Pete, you need to calm down, I had a heart attack a year ago and I am not much older than you. I know the story on this car as I remember when you found it for the UK guy and bought it. You probably should have never agreed to do the engine in the first place. But at this point take the loss on the mechanical and send it off to someone else to get it running. The UK guy should lick his wounds at this point pay the extra money and move on otherwise this is going to end in a bad way for everyone involved, The UK guy should simply realize he will end up with a 100,000 car in the end so get her done and move along. DO NOT HAVE A HEART ATTACK OVER A CAR!

That car needs to go to someone else so you can take a chill from it for a while. Sometimes we just have to say uncle. Been there done that in my career, it was a tough decision for me to make but i just couldn't make it work so it went to someone with a fresh set of eyes and it worked out. Praying for you

All modern transmissions with tapered input bearings have to have the bellhousing dialed in. All other transmissions should have the bellhousing dialed in. Factory service manuals tell you to dial in the bellhousing when changing a bellhousing from the factory original. The bowler tool and robmcc dowels would fix this in no time for $250, it is a chevy, tools are easy to get. I don't care what everyone has gotten by with in the past, the tremecs and richmonds must be done right and dialed in. Automatic transmissions can and should be dialed in too, even though we get by not doing it.

You need to charge him to do this trans work, I was quoted 10-15 grand for an interior. A restoration of a 1970 roadrunner dash is 5-10 grand to do it right. Paint 10-20 grand, bodywork $100 an hour. The guy needs to pay up and get real.

If you find a shop to do the trans make damn sure they have the tools to do it, and request pictures of the bellhousing dial in. I do my own because I can't find a shop that does this, they look at me like I am nuts.

Mistakes were made, if it was ME restoring the Camaro, I would have built it with a 350 turbo trans & gear vendors overdrive or a 700-R4 and put it tougher one time and be done, tell the owner you want a manual trans, after you get it back to the UK, YOU put it in after Pete ships the car back. This job would have been out the door over 6 months ago with a turbo 350 and my friend Pete would now be working on a 67 GTO as the Camaro and Stang would already be done and gone. All these new manual trans set ups ( 5 speed or, 6 speed with them bastard hydraulic throw out bearing) are a royal pain in the butt. I would just refuse to do it with a manual trans. I feel for you Pete. After the owners gets it back and he blows the clutch out (Trust me he will) and has to replace the clutch in a F body he will be forced to re think the manual trans route in a F body as there just NOT worth it. ( I know, I own two 68s) And yeah Pete, I always hit the like button as I been a subscriber to you since the beginning.

I’d like to see cars that you’ve done
10 years later. To see if they have been looked after and how they have held up after the restoration.
