The turbocharged petrol engines could catch fire due to a manufacturing defect.
Jaguar Land Rover Australia has recalled 81 examples of its 2017-2023 Land Rover Defender, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover Velar SUVs, after it was discovered a manufacturing fault could spark an engine fire.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing defect, under certain conditions the engine may rapidly overheat and subsequently rupture the engine mounted plastic elbow in the cooling system.
“This could cause a coolant leak and may result in an engine compartment fire.
“Note: If the engine overheats, the engine temperature (red) warning lamp may illuminate.
“If the engine overheats it may result in an engine compartment fire increasing the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”
According to Jaguar Land Rover’s online VIN recall search, the affected vehicles are all powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine.

Jaguar Land Rover Australia has advised it owners they will be notified and instructed to take their vehicle to an approved repairer to have the work carried out as soon as possible, free of charge.
