Sand the bare metal like you say with 80 grid then again with 180 before applying filler and use not a flexibel blok for the lower section and tip sanding block with holes for dust extraction

Masking tape trick is the best for body lines. Been autonomy repair/paint tech for over 20 years.. that's one the best tips in the business

Wish I had the proper equipment to pull out that straight. Lol I did what I could with glue puller . Great video
