I use full synthetic in a 98 LS1. No harm in using a synthetic in a car that originally didn't call for it.

Some flush machines will allow the vehicle trans pump to pump the fluid so it's never flowing backwards (which can jam wear material into places). If it were done from new I don't see an issue.
