Demand of electric cars continues to grow in Australia, but now buyers have the option of purchasing a pre-owned Ioniq 5 directly from Hyundai.
Those who missed out on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 now have another chance – provided they don’t mind some wear and tear.
Hyundai Australia today announced it has begun selling used Ioniq 5 models on its website – beginning with 23 vehicles initially – which it says are former company-owned cars, or customer vehicles.
A spokesperson for Hyundai Australia said the used Ioniq 5s have been “sharply priced” – avoiding excessive markups, despite demand.
The vehicles have been advertised from $68,200 drive-away for a 2WD model with less than 20,000 kilometres on the clock, up to $75,150 drive-away for an AWD variant with a little over 5000km.
Compare that to a brand-new Ioniq 5 Dynamiq RWD that is priced from $69,900 before on-road costs, and an Ioniq 5 Techniq AWD for $77,500 before on-road costs – albeit with larger battery packs, and a shorter standard feature list in the Dynamiq.
Being a first-come-first service basis, it’s possible some of the initial batch of 23 used vehicles could be ‘flipped’ by individuals or dealerships – a process whereby an individual or dealer buys a vehicle under market value with the express purpose of selling it for profit – and purchased by those willing to pay a premium to skip the queue.
Hyundai Australia says the used cars are currently only available to be purchased in Sydney during this trial period, with more pre-owned Ioniq 5s expected to be made available in other Australian cities in the future.
The company says it will continue to add pre-owned Ioniq 5s to its website, which will be a mix of ex-company cars and trade-ins from customers who are swapping into Ioniq 6 sedans – or other future Ioniq models which will be exclusively sold through the company’s website.
