Solar isn't really a green energy. Mining for its materials and precious metals use heavy diesel machinery, destroy the environment, and poison surrounding ecosystems. Then the mined materials are delivered to factories by diesel powered trucks, and the factories emit a lot of pollution, then the refined materials are sent to many other factories to make them into components, again delivered by diesel powered trucks. Final assembly at a factory, the solar products are delivered to sea ports (again by diesel trucks), then shipped all over the world, by diesel powered cargo ships…

Great commentary Scotty. In colder places in the winter (and stable high pressure in Summer too) the wind often doesn't blow for days on end and they switch to expensive diesel generators. I think we're going to end up maintaining our ICE cars for generations just like the Cubans had to do! One can only hope that the penny drops soon enough and government sees that it's going to need to keep producing more efficient fossil fuel powered cars.

How can apple claim 96% of their data center is using sun. When apple uses Microsoft azure to host their icloud and other service. And azure isn't even close to 90% powered by the sun. Unless apple is using only data center from azure that are so cloud "solar powered"

Thorium MSRs seem the way to go. If you can make a mini thorium MSR sphere you could use the graphite spheres to breed thorium and make heat to power turbines or boil water directly.
