Lamborghini’s super-fast SUV is adopting hybrid-electric power and has been caught on film for the first time.
The 2024 Lamborghini Urus plug-in hybrid has been spotted testing in Italy, driving in near silence on electric power by YouTube channel Varryx.
Almost three quarters of that power is expected to come from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 – the same found in the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, though tuned for extra performance – with the remaining 167kW coming from electric propulsion.
There’s no word yet on the Lamborghini SUV’s electric driving range, but if other plug-in hybrids are a guide it’s likely to be able to travel 50km before the petrol engine takes over.
In addition to the silent driving, the Lamborghini Urus in the film appears as if it’s a plug-in hybrid due to the electric-car warning signs on the vehicle – a requirement for prototypes – as well as what appears to be a charging flap on the rear left panel above the wheel.
The Lamborghini Aventador V12 successor is due to be unveiled in the coming months, with the Urus plug-in hybrid expected in late 2023 or early 2024.
