I always thought it was a waste of money anyway
Except fuel injectors can get clogged, and running some extra injector cleaner though your gas tank can help. It also depends on where you buy your gasoline. Some discount gas stations do not use as much detergent in their gasoline formulations as the name brand gasolines, and therefore your engine can accumulate more carbon.
We used to call it “blowing out the carbon.” Pedal to the metal!
