The Sally Carrera character from the animated Cars movie has become a real Porsche 911 and is going up for auction this week.

German sports-car brand Porsche has breathed life into the Sally Carrera character from the original Cars animated movie – and now Lightning McQueen’s big-screen love interest is up for auction in the USA.

The rear-world Sally is based on a current 911 GTS and puts a twist on all of the highlights from the movie star car — starting with a special paint colour and finishing with a one-off watch and owner’s manual.

Named the ‘911 Sally Special’ the car even has the pinstriped tattoo on its tail that was one of the surprise character details in the movie.

Porsche said its Sally is a one-off and it collaborated with members of the original Pixar production studio who created the movie character — the only modern model in the first Cars movie — based on a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera.

“The Sally Special is based on the fastest, most engaging and agile 911 Carrera there is – the 473 hp 911 Carrera GTS – equipped with a manual gearbox to appeal to those who love driving, just like Sally Carrera,” said Boris Apenbrink, director Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur Vehicles in Germany.

“This was one of the most intense, emotional and detailed Sonderwunsch (special requests) projects our team has ever worked on. For example, the car is finished in a new and unique colour – ‘Sally Blue Metallic’ – developed specifically for the 911 Sally Special.”

Porsche has not revealed any details on the cost of the car, which is being auctioned as a fund-raiser for young girls’ charities by RM Sothebys in the USA on Saturday at the Monterey Car Week.

There is special Sally Carrera branding in the cabin and on the door sills, and embossed Cars logs in the leather trim.

The car has one-off alloy wheels in five-spoke ‘turbo’ style from the original Type 996 version of the 911, but updated in size to match the current 911 fitment.

The successful bidder at the Monterey auction will be helping the United Nations Refugee Agency and the Girls Inc. charity in the USA.

In addition to the car, the new owner will also receive a one-of-a-kind watch from Porsche Design, an indoor car cover, the original colour moulds for the paintwork and a second set of wheels on a custom rack in case they want to take Sally on a date to a racetrack.
