DIY means that you do it yourself…who are you charging?
I mean, as a small business owner (construction) when you give an estimate, it is reflective of what you can see without touching the work … once you open it up it’s a whole new can of worms and you should always let the customer it could be more once u start work because unforeseen work conditions or problems. Once the work is done I present them with a final bill, and my estimate let’s them know (fine print at the bottom just above where they sign) that the final price can change and is due to inflation raising prices daily and unforeseen work required to finish the job described on the estimate. This gives you the flexibility, and transparency, of being able to charge more at the end and not set yourself back (if required), as long as your honest about it all the customer is generally never bothered by this especially when they can expect it to happen from the get go!
People always argue that you should get an hour for an hour and not make a profit.
What happens when you need more hours?
A supplement.
If you estimate a repair and find more is required, they re- evaluate the time and materials required.
You could do the same thing. Make a new repair to add to the first one.
If you don't play the way insurance company does, you reduce your own wage in the doing of the actual work.
What car is that?
Newer car crap common issue….
The radiator in my 2012 ram 1500 4.7 liter starting leaking was overheating. Chrysler uses a split ac condenser/transmission cooler on that truck.
It's your job to check if things like the ac having to be evac/recharged. But just because a bumper comes off doesn't mean it wasn't in the labor time…. Chrysler labor times just suck and we as techs end up eating it
