The Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto Has Made a Hybridized Comeback

Production of the Alfa Romeo Duetto (or Spider as many of you also know it) ended in 1994, after a rich history of four unforgettable generations. Now, the name has made a comeback, and not only is it more modern than ever before, but it also offers a powertrain by today’s standards.

Garage Italia built its car as a tribute to one of the most fascinating cars Alfa Romeo ever offered and made sure that the amazing Pininfarina design lines were not distorted – it even keeps those cool-looking large circular lights at the front. The restomod version, however, features a lightened body, with new fenders, and a very cool-looking aqua green finish.

The same aqua green finish was used for the central part of the dashboard and door panels, while the seats are wrapped in orange Poltrona Frau leather. Insertions of wood give the car a very elegant look, and, in an attempt to keep the inside as original as possible Garaga Italia opted to go without digital instrumentation or an infotainment system.

The biggest news is of course the car’s powertrain. It retains the original 2.0-liter twin-cam four-cylinder engine with its 122 horsepower, but it is combined with a Kers mild hybrid system supplied by Newtron – an approach similar to one of the company’s previous models, the Abarth 595 Turismo K-Hertz. The system allows the recovery of energy dissipated under braking and returns it in acceleration. The transmission remains unchanged – a 5-speed manual, which routes power to the rear wheels.

There is no word just yet on how much this model will cost or when will it be available to order, but we should find out more about it by mid-July 2022 at the latest.
