A larger variant of the off-roader has been confirmed for production – and could be sold in Australia.

The new vehicle is expected to exceed five metres from nose to tail, likely making it Jaguar Land Rover’s largest model.

While an official announcement is yet to be made, Drive understands the Defender 130 could be sold in Australia.

Technical details are thin on the ground for now, however the manufacturer says an in-depth reveal has been scheduled for 31 May 2022.

The original Defender 90, 110, and 130 suffixes referenced the length of the variant’s wheelbase in inches.

However, leaked design sketches of the upcoming vehicle suggest a longer boot will be added to the existing 110 layout (above).

It’s likely the existing Ingenium straight-six petrol and diesel engines will be offered, alongside the brand’s flagship 5.0-litre V8.

A camouflaged example of the Land Rover Defender 130 has previously been snapped on public roads in Britain (below).
