High-spec versions of Peugeot’s largest SUVs no longer feature upgraded stereo systems from French brand Focal, with buyers compensated with free servicing, or $1000.

Certain versions of the 2022 Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs will no longer be fitted with premium Focal sound systems, as the French brand continues to be affected by parts shortages.

Attributed to a “manufacturing irregularity”, all Model Year 2022 examples of the 3008 GT Sport petrol and Plug-in Hybrid, 5008 GT Sport petrol and 5008 GT diesel will no longer feature the 10-speaker, 515-watt Focal premium sound system initially promised.

Peugeot Australia is yet to confirm when the Focal sound system will return, with a statement from the company reading it is “working closely with Stellantis to identify when the Focal premium audio system will be reintroduced”.

Affected buyers “who have taken delivery of or have a contract for an impacted vehicle” will be offered a choice of three years of free scheduled servicing, or $1000 “fair market value compensation” by Peugeot’s local division.

Alternatively, customers “can choose to accept a full refund of the purchase price or cancel their order.”

The affected vehicles feature a six-speaker sound system in place of the Focal set-up.

“Peugeot Australia sincerely regrets this error and is working collaboratively with all impacted customers on a suitable resolution,” the company says in a statement.
