Great quick & dirty tip. 😀 Some cars do not have equal side-to-side wheel spacing on each axle so I would check at the jackstands to make sure the strings are parallel. 1/8" of toe-in across the wheel diameter is OK. I do my own toe adjustments with a laser & mirror setup but the strings will get you close and will also help you center your steering wheel (which my laser tool does not).

Toe in value is specified for every car model, it's almost never zero (equal value front and back of the tire).
Most front front wheel drive vehicles has positive values (toes pointing outward) and rear wheel drives are mostly negative(toe in).

Please people.. don't touch your front end…if you loosen the tie rods to much they could come apart and cause a very bad accident… just go to a garage and get it done correctly

It's funny I'm seeing this… I just had to do that yesterday after installing a steering rack. It's nice not scrubbing your nice tires off before you can get to the shop for an alignment.

Is it correct to put 2mm more in the front than the rear side?
