Tesla Model Y: Australian pricing leaked

According to leaked pricing published by motoring website Chasing Cars this morning, the starting price for a new Tesla Model Y electric SUV will be $67,990 plus on-road costs.

The top-of-the-range Tesla Model Y Performance is said to cost from $98,172 plus on-road costs, according to leaked prices published by the motoring website.

Pricing for the middle-of-the-range ‘Long Range AWD’ model is yet to be revealed publicly.

The entry-level Model Y is expected to be rear-wheel drive – with one electric motor producing approximately 250kW, and around 510km of claimed laboratory driving range.

Meanwhile, the Performance will be all-wheel drive, with an expected 393kW across two electric motors, and around 600km of claimed driving range from a larger battery pack (82kWh).

However, delays with production and shipping throughout the global pandemic have pushed the first Australian deliveries of the new Tesla Model Y into the first half of this year.

Exact arrival timing for the new Tesla Model Y is yet to be confirmed, however Drive understands the first shipments are due mid-year.

According to the media report, Australian pricing for the Tesla Model Y came via a leaked document intended for “corporate and industry customers”.

The Tesla Model Y has the potential to double Tesla’s sales in Australia in the coming years.

Tesla is already the biggest-seller of electric vehicles in Australia by a significant margin.

Last year, Tesla sold more than 12,000 examples of its Model 3 sedan – outselling its nearest electric-car rival by almost 10-to-one.
